Welcome back to Girl Come Sit With Me. Y'all, we are officially kicking off season two and I couldn't be more excited to be here. Thank you so much for tuning in today. If you new here, welcome to the community. Hey, girl. And for my day one listeners, I am so grateful for your continued support. Let's be real, season two would not be here.
Yes, without me, but also without you. Now, last season was all about self-discovery, getting to know ourselves, digging in deeper and finding out who we truly are. And if you haven't already, I encourage you to check out some of those episodes. They're filled with gems that will set the foundation for what we're about to dive into this season. So let's talk season two. Y'all, this season is about to be...
bigger, more insightful. We are going to dig even deeper. Yep, probably didn't think that was possible, but we are going to be digging even deeper than we did in season one. And I even have a couple of surprises, including some events that I will be throwing. Girl, come sit with me, okay? Now, this season is all about what's next. Self-discovery is just the beginning.
Once you've gotten to know yourself, how do you move forward? How do you take action? What steps can you take to start living in alignment with who you truly are? Girl, today we're diving into how to take the next step and how I've personally gotten to a place where I feel mentally clear more so than ever before. And trust me, I'm going to give you the tools to get to this space as well. So grab your drink.
Get comfortable and let's just dive right on into it.
So of course I want us to start with where I am now. Honestly, I'm in a place where my mind feels clear. It feels lighter. My energy feels lighter. And I'm able to focus on what truly matters. But getting here wasn't the easiest part, right? So I had to do a couple of things. I know for sure I definitely had to create a space for myself, almost like a way of decluttering my life.
So anything that doesn't serve me, I was kicking it to the curb. Even certain thoughts, I noticed there were certain conversations with certain topics, would send me down a rabbit hole. And y'all, I'm tired I was tired of going down those rabbit holes and engaging in conversations that I was like, I shouldn't even be engaging in this. If I'm past it, let me be past it. It's one thing to...
converse with friends or those that I trust around me about certain tough topics or even able to vent every now and then. But it's another thing when it starts to truly affect how I feel. And I found myself in a place where that would happen. I would just, in the conversation, it would seem like I'm okay.
And then maybe like an hour or so later, it takes a little while for things to hit me. I found myself sad or the next day I found my energy lower than what it usually was. And I was getting tired of that. And I knew for certain I was not going to bring that into the new year. And quite frankly, y'all, I didn't even wait until January 1st to do that. I was like, nope, I'm starting it today.
So yes, that lady was reminding me to stand in my power and take a moment to step back from anything and anyone that doesn't align with my purpose. If the conversation doesn't align with my purpose or my values, or if it's going to negatively affect my mental space and it's not a conversation that is necessary to have.
then guess what? I just didn't have it. I wouldn't engage. Let's think about this, Clarity is a form of power. Once you clear your mental clutter, you can focus on what truly matters. How many times have you had those moments where there's so many things on your mind to where you realize a whole day's gone by, you've done a couple of things, but you could have done way more?
If you had a clear mind, because with a clear mind, I'm able to organize my task. Not just prioritize them, but also organize them in a way that makes it more efficient for me. I don't have to work hard, I just have to work smart. And it's easier to work smart when my mind is decluttered. Another thing y'all know, I love talking about boundaries now. Setting boundaries was another thing that helped me with my mental clarity this season.
Boundaries are everything. Remember I told, in season one, I told you all how I had to learn how to say no without feeling guilty. And that was a game changer for me. Okay, because I realized that self care starts with boundaries. Protect your peace, girl.
Self care should not be a luxury. This should be something that is a necessity. Well, it is something that is a necessity. It's something that we have to do in order to make sure that we are mentally, emotionally and spiritually good.
So yes, so boundaries definitely helped me set that tone of where I needed to be.
Something else that helped me find mental clarity was finding time and creating time for me to have reflections.
I got to a place where I had to remind myself to have those daily reflections.
I mean really examining not just, just a list of what I did that day. No, I'm talking about a reflection where I award myself at least five to 10 minutes every single day. Sometimes my body naturally wakes up at five o'clock in the morning. So sometimes it's at five o'clock in the morning when I'm still laying in bed. Maybe my kids are in bed with me, maybe they're not.
And I am just right there allowing myself to really reflect on a day before. Did anything affect me more than I wanted it to? Did anything lift my spirits? If so, what was that? How do I add that into the next day? How do I add that feeling into the next day?
LaLa the Skin Coat, she has a journal. It's a skincare journal and y'all, it even has spaces for us to track our habits on it. So I started writing all of my habits in this journal and I started documenting when I engaged in those habits, when I didn't. I was being honest with myself, because how can I really get help if I can't be honest with myself? Another thing that I was doing,
was I was looking at how I felt on those days. So not only was I writing down in in La La the Skincoach habit tracker, that's in her skincare journal, but I was also writing down how I felt. I was analyzing exactly how I felt on certain days. I wanted to see if there was patterns.
What patterns do I need to keep? Increase, decrease, whatever it may feel like. I needed to know exactly where I was and also how I was moving. That was what I really needed to know. How was I moving? So if you're listening to this and you're thinking, how did I get there or how can you get there? Don't worry. I'm down to break it down for you, okay?
The first step is recognizing what's holding you back.
What's holding you back? Is it fear? Is it doubt? Is it imposter syndrome? Is it a toxic situation? What's holding you back? What is hindering you from succeeding? What is making your journey to achieving whatever goal it is that you have? What's making that happen way longer than it should be?
You get what I'm saying? what is inputting more time?
between you getting to your goals.
Let's start there.
So you've done the work, you discovered who you are, now what? Well, the answer is action. It's action. This is our time to act. This is our time to do. Remember that word verb that we learned at elementary school? This is that time, okay? So let's see, what do we do next? We set some clear goals.
Because once you know who you are, now it's time to figure out what you want.
And if you don't know what you want, that is okay too. Start.
start with looking at.
people who you admire, people who you look at them and you're like, wow, I would love to add that to my life. Use them as motivation. Use them as inspiration. There we go. Use them as inspiration and write it down. Make it a plan and go for it. Self-discovery is just the beginning.
The real magic happens when you take action on what you've learned about yourself. So if you still can't figure out what you want, that's okay. Take the time to keep learning about yourself and understand that who you are today may not be who you are in three years. What you wanted last year may not be what you want this year. If it is cool, keep it going, work on it. But if it's not, that's okay as well.
Another thing is to remember to, no matter what goal you have, take small steps. We see people on social media taking the most giant steps in the world, right? We see these big grandiose moments on social media, but what do we not do? We don't get the opportunity.
to see the small wins sometimes. And it takes those small wins for you to get to where you're trying to go, okay? So let's take some small steps. Don't overwhelm yourself because this process should not be overwhelming. This should be something that is fun and exciting. Even if you have nerves, still think about it. You have the opportunity to relearn yourself.
If you haven't already done that, you have the opportunity to truly figure out who you are, what you like, what you don't like. Look at when we see children. What do they do? They explore. They're gonna explore. They're gonna say, crayon. Hmm, okay, can I eat this? Do I like this? Right? So that is the goal, okay? Progress is progress.
No matter how small, celebrate every step forward. Because every step you take, every little step I take, every step you take is going to get you a little closer to where you want to be. Enjoy these moments. We often hear celebrities say, man, when I was on my way up, it was amazing. So let's keep that going. Another thing that we can do is surround ourselves with
support. Having the right people in our corner. Who's in your circle? Are they cheering you on or are they holding you back?
Are they giving you constructive criticism because they want to see you win? They already have it made up in their mind that you are going to win? Those are the type of people that you want to include in your circle, in your board of trustees, so to speak, right?
Cause it's okay to feel overwhelmed. It's okay to take breaks, but having the right circle or the right team, those are the individuals that's gonna hold you accountable. They're gonna remind you like, friend, you could do this better. Or, hey, you are amazing at this. Do that. Focus on that, right?
So it's okay to have those moments of uncertainty, things like that, but just keep in mind that it's never okay to give up on yourself. We can pivot, nothing wrong with pivoting. I told y'all, my main focus was to be a therapist. That was my main focus. And then I started and was like, mm-mm. I'm not in love with this. It's not filling my heart. I'm helping folks, but it's not filling my heart.
So you owe it to yourself to keep going. I owe it to myself to keep going. And that's what I'm gonna do. That's what we are going to do together. Especially this season. Season two, y'all, we are up. I don't know if you feel what I feel, but even right now I have goosebumps and I have chills
It's up. I told myself and I'm keeping this promise to myself that
Not only will I keep going and keep thriving, I am also going to keep this clear mental space that I'm in. I really want to focus on that because...
I noticed when I was doing those daily self-reflections I was telling y'all about, I noticed that I just kept repeatedly going back to those moments where someone asked me a question I'm venting.
or if someone brings something up now in my mind, even if I'm not saying it aloud to them, I'm venting and I don't want, and then after I vent, I realize my feelings are kaput. One day I had this poem that was stuck in my mind, y'all. was just, it was on my heart, it was on my spirit, it was on my mind. And all it took was for one person, one specific person, cause not everybody.
but one specific person to ask me something and it just left me so quickly because I was in a space where I was still allowing that person to get to me.
And we have to move past those moments. We have to move past giving people the power or even giving certain memories the power to alter us for a long or an extended period of time. It's okay for me to have my moments where I'm like, okay, this got me down a little bit or ooh, I feel the fire, y'all. Y'all know I'm an Aries now. I feel the fire.
But it's important to know that nothing is more important than our peace. That was something that clicked for me on New Year's Eve. Nothing is worth my peace. It's not. I have to be okay. When I'm okay, my children thrive. When I'm great, they thrive. Okay? So I have to keep it going.
So this season, I am really excited for what we have coming up, y'all. I am actually hosting my first live recording event. So I will be recording, girl, come sit with me. I will be recording this event on Friday, January 24th of 2025 from 7 to 9 PM at Cold Space. And I want you to be there.
is going to be an incredible evening. I will be recording multiple episodes, okay? And this event will be the opportunity for you all to, one, you get to finally see in person this beautiful and safe community that you all have started to experience virtually, but now you get to get that same feeling in person. You get to meet
other women that are in the community of girl come sit with me and I'll be honest it's some men in this community as well because let's be real yes I tailor my content for women but a lot of this is universal a lot of these feelings that we feel is universal okay so this evening will be filled with networking
some food, some drinks, right? And of course the live recording of girl, come sit with me. The tickets are $20 and it will be at Co Space, y'all. Okay? I know I said it early, but let me repeat this of where it's going to be at. This event will be Friday, January 24th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Co Space.
in Miami Gardens. That's where I record my podcast. The vibe is there. Y'all, even the scent inside of here when you come in, I'm allergic to a lot of scents, but even the scent in here is refreshing. The energy is refreshing. Joy has found a way to create this safe space for us. And that's what made me feel safe enough to bring my safe space.
which is a community of girl, come sit with me into this beautiful coworking venue, right? So trust me, you don't wanna miss the vibes. The tickets are $20 and I am really, y'all, I am so excited for this because granted I film alone and this season, you all will notice that I will be bringing guests on.
I'll be having special guests coming in to chat with us and to sit with me, of course. But I really am looking forward to slowly expanding this community while also making sure that it keeps its integrity. So that will be our live recording on January 24, 2025 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Coast Space in Miami Gardens.
And I will also be, before we get to that, it is important to note that I am partnering with this event. We have some beautiful and very special sponsors. One of the sponsors is Eat Well Exchange, one of my favorite nonprofits who goes out into the community.
They remind us that our cultural foods are healthy as well. Sometimes we may have to alter how much seasoning we put or making sure we don't overcook our vegetables. But Eat Well Exchange reminds us that we can eat healthy with what we have in our home, with our cultural foods.
Another one of our sponsors is Dunn's Farm and Market, y'all. So Dunn's Overtown Farm and Market. If you have not been there, it is a beautiful garden that grows, my goodness, some of everything and is right in the heart of Overtown. You can't miss it. Nine times out of you probably passed by it while you were on the highway and didn't even realize it, y'all.
It is owned by a black woman. It was curated by a black woman. Actually, now that I think about it, all of my sponsors are black women. All of my sponsors, all of these businesses started as an idea from black women. And it is a beautiful thing. So I do want to encourage you all.
to go to to Dunn's Overtown Farm and Market, go over there, support, even if you just want to volunteer your time, because let's be real, farming is not easy, okay? It's really not. I don't necessarily have a green thumb, but there's so many ways that we can support. So let's keep that support going because y'all, this event is gonna be a whole vibe, okay?
And last but not least, another one of our sponsors for the live recording will be Co-Space. Yes, Co-Space, where you can record your podcast. You can come in for creating content, all your content needs. Let's think about it. Do you need advice on branding? Joy has you covered. Do you need a safe space to co-work because you're like me? And my goodness, y'all, when I co-work at my home,
My home is so comfortable to where I go to sleep. So I have to come here to get my work done, especially when I know, hey, I need to get this, this, and this done. So y'all, it's about to be a whole vibe. I'm so excited. And also I will be speaking at a webinar, a Healthy Equity Innovations webinar, okay? So I'll be speaking at the Balancing Career Growth and Wellbeing Through Work-Life Harmony.
webinar on January 30th, 2025. Y'all please register, it is free. And I'll be sharing tips on how to find harmony between your career and your personal life. We're gonna be talking about balance, making sure our equilibrium is where it needs to be. I will be talking about imposter syndrome. So make sure you register and join me on January 30th for
this webinar, this free webinar, okay?
Now both of these events are there to inspire us, motivate us, and help us take the next step into our journey. So I can't wait to see y'all there, okay? So as I wrap up today's episode, I do want to leave you with something special, okay?
The journey doesn't end with self discovery. That's just step one.
It's just the beginning. The real growth happens when you take what you've learned and you use it to build the life that you deserve.
when you take those continued leaps of faith.
That is where you'll start to really see.
where you are now, how far you come, how far you're going to continue to go. So thank you so much for spending time with me. If you love today's episode, share with your friends, post your favorite moments on social media, at girl come sit with me on all platforms. Please make sure you tag your girl, okay? Don't forget to subscribe, rate the podcast wherever you're listening to it and
Give honest ratings. If it resonated with you, let me know. If it didn't, if you have suggestions, things like that, let me know and leave a review. Your support means everything to me. I wanted to let you all know that I will start sharing some of your, I've started to get stories and letters.
that you all are going through that you would like for me to share and also speak on. So please continue to send those in because I will start sharing those on some of our episodes. This season I will be starting a segment where I highlight a specific listener. Now
Well, this listener may be someone who is supporting the podcast. Maybe they're commenting on YouTube. Maybe they're a paid subscriber. Maybe they sent me a private message. I don't have to share what's in your messages if you don't want me to. But I would like to start highlighting some of the listeners. Let's get to know one another on a deeper level.
because that is the goal of this, okay? So remember girl, you got this. And until next time, take care of yourself. I'm gonna see you soon and have a beautiful day.
